Phil Sandovals [4.5/5]

Phil Sandoval's>

Ever since moving to Huntsville, I've been hearing about how great Phil Sandoval's is. Their marketing staff is doing a wonderful job because they are consistently voted the #1 Mexican Restaurant in Huntsville and everyone in town seems to know it. Eventually, the hubby and I decided to see what all the fuss was about. We've been back several times since then and each time have been impressed with the quality of the food and the quick service.

On this particular trip I opted for the lunch fajitas with beef and the optional guacamole. The server was quick and friendly though he had some trouble keeping our drinks straight. I greatly enjoyed the chips and salsa as the chips were light and airy and the salsa was fresh and rich.

The fajitas made it instantly clear why Phil's tops the list of local Mexican restaurants. The beef was tender and juicy, the tortillas soft and pillow-y, the onions and peppers cooked to perfection--neither mushy nor charred. The borrochos were smoky and delicious, featuring both bacon and cilantro. The Mexican rice was a soft, fluffy rice with celery, carrots, and onions and the guacamole was made from wonderfully fresh avocados and combined with tomatoes and cilantro for a slight kick.

Despite being a "lunch" serving, the portion was generous enough that I could have easily split with someone else and still had plenty of food.

During busy times, the restaurant can run a bit to the loud side, but during nice weather dining on the patio alleviates that issue. Overall, the food far outweighs the noise and it's absolutely worth going.
